South Devon Adventure Therapy and Therapy for Mental Health
Evolve Psychotherapy is an integrative counselling practice based in Brixham, South Devon. I offer a holistic service to schools, local authorities and individuals, and specialise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with youth and adolescents, however; I also work with younger children and adults.
Evolve is all about thinking outside of the box to achieve positive outcomes with clients. I use CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) alongside other interventions such as Integrative Counselling, Mindfulness, Adventure Therapy and Youth Work to engage clients in the process of developing healthier thinking habits and behavioural change, which in turn lead to an increased sense of general wellbeing.
Success with youth and adolescents with mental health issues
My practice has had a great deal of success in working with clients suffering from a wide range of mental health and behavioural problems, including Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Stress, Low Mood, including Depression or the symptoms of Depression, Addiction and Dependency (in particular problems associated with cannabis misuse), Low Self-Esteem, Phobias and Behavioural and Conduct disorders. I have significant experience of working with young people with Autism Spectrum Condition.
I offer short term Solution Focused Therapies as well as Adventure Therapy and Person Centred Counselling. My work follows evidence based approaches for the treatment of common mental health problems. For more detailed information about what I offer please go to our 'What I offer' page.
Working with children and adolescents requires additional competencies, as often young people are not comfortable in traditional counselling in the therapy room and respond better, and achieve more positive outcomes if they can be active. That’s why with adolescents a popular option is to incorporate counselling and psychotherapy with Outdoor and Adventurous activities and Youth Work. This approach enables me to build positive lasting relationships, this is important as research has shown that a strong therapeutic relationship can improve clinical outcomes by up to 30%.
Adventurous and challenging activity promotes resilience, improves self-esteem and general wellbeing, and helps to re-establish our connection with the natural world.
I will be happy to provide you with references from our referral organisations which support the quality and effectiveness of the therapy I offer.
